Isandlwana 1879

Osprey's Campaign series provides concise analysis of key battles in history illustrated with maps, b/w photos and illustrations, 'birds'-eye-view' terrain maps and detailed artwork. Each title considers the strategic options of the opposing forces, weighes up the strengths and weaknesses of the opposing commanders then describes the battle in detail before assessing the consequences. The Isandlwana 1879 title includes many rare contemporary illustrations not published elsewhere as well as photographs of crucial elements in the terrain making it a thorough yet concise introduction to this most fascinating of Anglo-Zulu War battles. There are three stunning original pieces of colour artwork by Adam Hook depicting the discovery of the Zulu impi, the withdrawal of the guns and the final stages of the battle.
